Loving the birdies!

Images © Stampin’ Up! 1990-2009
Here’s another card that I made with the stamp set; Good Friend. I get so much enjoyment from stamping and card-making, and this set certainly makes it double the fun because it’s such an easy set to use.
Simply stamp the main body of the bird in the position you want it, and then stamp it again (you can stamp it without re-inking) on a scrap piece of paper or post-it note. Cut out the bird, being careful to trim on the coloured part rather than cutting around it (you’ve now created a MASK!). Gently stick the mask of the birdie over the top of your first stamped image, being careful to line it up perfectly. Here is the fun part – you can choose how long to have the birdies legs. If you want them shorter, you simply stamp the legs with more of the leg overlapping the body of the bird. If you want to have a tall birdie, simply stamp the legs lower down, still making sure that some of the top of the legs over-lap the body of the bird. Remove the mask and VOILA! You now have a custom birdie! The beak is quite easy to “eyeball” the position, although if you want to be sure, you can use a stamp-a-ma-jig to get the position exact. I tend not to worry with using the stamp-a-ma-jig for the beak as it’s fairly easy to line it up with the body of the bird.

Introducing a friend…
I’d like to share with you a new blog for you to enjoy. My awesome friend Ju, (who has also fallen under the spell of Stampin’ Up! and is a part of my Team), has unveiled her brand new blog!
Please visit her at jujybean and check out her lovely creations. Ju (Julie – although no one calls her that anymore! LOL!!!) has been my friend for nearly twelve years and is now one of my stampin’ buddies which is the BEST EVER because we now get to hang out and be creative (most of the time – unless we’re just being silly, that is.) She’s awesome and has the funniest sense of humour – you’ll LOVE reading her blog!
Congratulations on your new blog, Ju! Have fun with it!

A Good Birdie!
When I first saw this set in the catalogue I wasn’t convinced that I’d be able to create much with it, because it’s a sillhouette set and I don’t feel overly confident with bold images. I’m so glad that I did get it, though, because it’s really grown on me. I think the trick is to use the matching Designer Series Paper with this set. Good Morning Sunshine is a very bright and sweet pack of paper that co-ordinates perfectly with Good Friend.

Inspired by…
I’m often finding inspiration for my cards from many places such as clothes, nature, magazines, book covers, manchester and crockery… The inspiratiopn for the following cards comes from a very special mug – my Stamping Mug!
Julie gave me my very first “Stamping Mug“ quite some time ago as a random act of kindness right at the beginning of our Stampin’ Up! addictions, um, I mean, hobbies… and I fell in love with the design immediately! She knows me so well! I love the swirls and filligree images! It’s just “so me!!!”
Please note: **Coffee Mug must be full of coffee to reap maximum benefit from stampin’ session!!**
Can you imagine my surprise when I saw that the set “Friends 24-7″ from the NEW Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalogue had a filligree image that is an almost perfect match for my mug? I’ve been wanting to make a card based on the mug for so long… and now I could!
This is for you Ju!!!!
Here are three cards that I made last night (within about one hour), and they were fairly simple and quick to make.
TIP: I’m finding that I’m often making three to four cards of the same general design in one sitting to make better use of my time – this is a handy tip if you’re short of spare time! You’ve already cut an A4 piece of paper in half to make one card, so why not make a second card at the same time with the other half? I simply double this and make four at a time. You’ve already got the inks, accessories and coloured cardstock out, so make use of it!

I think they look quite nice together. Tee hee, I’ve also taken my colour inspiration from the cover art to the Twilight series – LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Twilight!!!!

I’m not sure if you can see the detail on the Real Red cardstock – I’ve stamped it with the background stamp ‘En Francais’ in Real Red ink and sponged the edges in Real Red ink too. I used black textured cardstock as I felt that it needed a little extra something as plain black cardstock would have been quite plain otherwise. I’ve used basic black 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon and Silver HodgePodge Hardware for the finishing touches! The saying stamps are from Baroque Motifs and Three Little Words.
I hope you enjoy!

You have to see the funny side…
Happy Mother’s Day to all my mummy friends! I hope you all got spoilt with breakfast in bed and lots of hugs and kisses from your loved ones.
It’s quite ironic that today, Mother’s Day, I’m spending on my own looking after the children who are sick. *laughs* It had to happen! Hubby has gone to the Mother’s Day Lunch with his brothers and their families and his mum, and I’m home tending to sneezes, coughing fits and admistering Ventolin as needed. The children aren’t too bad (in fact I know they’re better than before because they’re arguing!!), but because my Mother-in-Law is undergoing Chemotherapy for breast cancer we just can’t risk her catching anything (she spent Easter in hospital because of a sore throat.)
However, I did have breakfast in bed and receive some creatively-wrapped presents the children bought from the school Mother’s Day stall for 50c and $1 each. Sooo cute! Hubby told me he loved me and was very sympathetic about me having to stay home – so all is good!!! The children are watching a DVD at the moment so I have a moment to share the Scrapbooking Beyond The Page album that I made for my Mother-in-Law. It was a lot more fun than I expected and I’m quite pleased with the result. I thought it would be nice to give her something with pictures of the children as we haven’t given her any for quite a while (our bad!!).
I’ve used a combination of Stampin’ Up! and non-Stampin’ Up! products. Some SU products were retired in March but they fitted the theme of the page.

Wild About bright cards!
Here are two more cards that I made for Cindy to choose for her twin boys (turning TWO!) I surprised myself and had a ball playing around with these cards. Previously I felt like I had card-makers-block when trying to do little boy’s cards, but these ones came reasonably easy. Perhaps it’s because I had a reason to make them?

I’m just LOVING these bright colours! They come up so well on the Whisper White – please don’t ever use any brand other than Stampin’ Up!’s Whisper White – it’s so smooth and the colours just pop right off the paper!

Bugs & Kisses
I looked through my stash of cards that I’d made a while ago and realised that I haven’t made many children’s cards – which is funny considering that I have two young children myself and the majority of my friends and customers have young children too (mostly under 8 years). I had planned to change that, but never really got around to making a good effort with my stamp sets and quite often shied away from bright colours. Luckily for me, my friend Cindy asked me if I would make cards for her twin boys… and I’m *so* glad she did!
It gave me the opportunity to dust off my Bugs & Kisses and Wild About You sets as well as have a play with my NEW Animal Crackers set. I was having so much fun creating cards that I actually made about 6 cards for her to choose from (sorry Cinders!!!). Here are the Bugs & Kisses cards. (Tee hee, Cindy had to grab them all because she couldn’t choose between them).

So thankful.

I made this card using the New Level 3 Hostess set Window Dressing. I made this with my dear friend Linda on my mind. Such a beautiful soul and wonderful friend and I *AM* so thankful for her.
